Space Force

It's kind of an entertaining idea, but not sure the article really outlines what it means.
  • How ambitious is this new branch going to be? Only 500-600 people have even been to "Space". Ever.
  • Where does the funding come from? Are other branches going to "take one for the team"? Seem doubtful.
  • Aside from the assumption that they'll be in space, what are they actually going to do?
Seems like more of a brand than an actual branch of the military. It'll probably be decades - if not centuries - before joining the Space Force means you actually will be going to space.

Seems like they're just getting a head start, in case we get attacked by aliens. At least someone will know who destroyed us.

Hard to not get political, but I would rather use the resources to create a cyber warfare division, than space. Cyber warfare is a real threat that is here now, and we are losing.

Cyber warfare is already a part of other parts of our government and military. It does need unified leadership and control. The Space Force is also tasked with protecting our assets in space, so it's not a waste of resources. China's already proven that it can shoot down satellites. Given how much of our society is dependent on satellite usage, it's a necessary step.

Cyber Command at Ft Meade is wearing the hat for all things cyber. Commanded by a 4 star General.
