Good article by Mickey, giving info on the defensive overhaul.

"So let's start here with the hire of the fourth defensive coordinator in four years, Christian Parker, running the show. Count Parker as one of eight new defensive assistants on the nine-man staff, the only holdover from last year being assistant linebackers coach J.J. Clark."

"With the addition in the first round of Downs and Lawrence, there are five of the Cowboys' own first-round draft choices on the roster, including the Three Tylers on the offensive line, Smith, Guyton and Booker. Plus, there are trade additions from this time last year, making it eight with Kenny Clark, Quinnen Williams and now Rashan Gary."

"Now then, when walking through the locker room Friday, charted down 19 new names above lockers, 11 of those defensive players."

Funny how I can see you and others on here acting like it's rocket science to change up a defense/personnel/scheme in an off season. It's hard but it surely can be done!

Well, it is not rocket science. But I can tell you about rocket engine design and engineering.
And I bet we only hear about the good stuff Apparently when you're developing things like this lots of mistakes happen Things blow up some people die get injured all through the process of trying to create something special but it takes a lot of R and DA lot of money and a lot of patience with a lot of collateral damage so yeah I think people don't realize that it's not going to happen overnight it can be changed It can be made better there will be some improvement but it will take more than one offseason to get it to where I believe he's envisioning this to be...

Look man it's not rocket science dan Quinn did it but we can all agree that it never improved the way we wanted to see it dan Quinn's defenses were A House of Cards they were a mirage they definitely lived on opportunities you know opportunistic they they relied on the turnovers they did everything they could to create turnovers but forgot to stop the run They were not anything but an opportunistic defense which was great because it was so much better than Nolan's but over a three year. We kept getting beat the same way in big games whether it was a regular season or the playoffs They had no answer for offenses that knew exactly what Dan was trying to do and countered it and beat it to death...

So yes we would love to see improvement this year it's not rocket science but it also can't happen overnight they can get improvement now but you gotta hope the next two off seasons we can get to where Seattle's defense is And I know they did it what seems pretty quick but I think it took at least two off seasons and some luck...

His health's a big part of that and as much as Zimmer gets a lot of criticism and I didn't like Matt Eberfluence at all because of the way he didn't adjust or make changes he just was stubborn injuries were a big part of this seattle got lucky and didn't have a rash of injuries along the defense they were able to play their game and you can see it in the playoffs New England as well I mean these these teams had pieces, But then they were Added to and tweaked and they got it where they wanted I mean look at the Texans defense but the weird thing is they can't get their offense right it happens on teams It's hard to get them both right in one offseason..

Need to go any further back than Jimmy Johnson you think that happened overnight maybe you missed the first two seasons maybe three before it really came together and then they went on a run they found the formula the blueprint the players and they were off to the races but it did not happen overnight..

Why do people act like this is some sort of gotcha?

He is literally a Cowboys employee lol
Right, I do not understand this. Even when he wrote for the DMN, he was like then like he is now. He is not an over the top homer. Just with a slightly positive note.
Even when he is a slight bit negative, they think he is positive. I believe they have to hate on him as to not to show thy seem like a homer.

He used to write the season preview for one of the magazines that usually came out in July I think it was for The Sporting News. As they had a local media person, do the write up for their respective teams. I would buy that over all the other ones. From mid 80's to 2000 or so. When info was more and more on the internet.

He was then employed by the team for The Dallas Cowboys Weekly, now called The Star Magazine.

What a great article! Safe to say the 2026 Cowboys defense will be nothing like the 2025 version. I keep repeating myself but give CP 3-4 games and our defense could really be humming along quite nicely.
And this 3 to 4 game window is exactly when im dropping my "Im scared, afraid and ascared that CP will be Poached" thread.

However. I've already discussed in great detail and specificity.

They didn't protect ultra talented Al Harris and now he's currently............

I hope you're not implying that Al Harris could have been in the same position because he's been gone for two years now from the Cowboys and what does he know that's right the rest of the league is not elevating him yet he's a solid coach but I think he's a little bit overrated or he would have already been a defensive coordinator let alone some of these guys who went really quick from a quarterback coach to one year as an OC like Liam Cohen to now coaching the Jags as a head coach that's what it looks like when you have real talent same with Kellen Moore if you wanna talk about a guy they didn't protect mike Mccarthy didn't like the guy he really wanted to call the place so they got rid of him and a lot of y'all wanted him gone you said he was trash overrated and guess why he's the one that got a Super Bowl ring as an OC and now has his own team with the New Orleans Saints..

Try to understand this love affair with Al Harris Yes he was very good here very solid DB coach but I don't see him Any different than the way a guy like Kris Richard. Remember all the hype surrounding him and nobody wanted to let him go and what happened since he's left here? I'd say his career is about the same it never went further as a matter of fact it was a demotion here it was a quick interim thing and now he's gone and Al Harris the guy's a great DB coach I'm sure maybe someday he'll be DC but the fact that he hasn't got there yet that should be all you need to know..

He is not on the same path that Christian Parker is And maybe it took a little too long but at least the Cowboys are now on offense and defense trying to build with youth along the coaching staff that hopefully have enough depth that if these guys do leave the next guy up they'll elevate so they can't leave they will retain those guys that they feel like they should..

Still just A DB coach I like the guy but if you're implying that we missed out on him that it's somehow related to Christian Parker no you're wrong and you can read my other long one but I just thought I'd give you a short one al Harris is still ADB coach And yes he's gotten some raises in title considerations added but that doesn't make him an ultra talented miss by the Cowboys because he would have already been to DC..

There is no way to "protect" Christian Parker if someone offers him a HC job. You can throw him more money but it's still ultimately his choice to leave.
