Spagnola: Should Have Known This Story Was Too Good To Be True

Yes and no.

Why should we have not been excited at the beginning of the year? We were coming off a 12-4 season with an MVP candidate at QB and the front office literally stole some high round draft picks who made an immediate impact this season.

Des is certainly not an illusion. He's not the game's best but he is a game changing receiver when healthy and his presence creates opportunities for other receivers. Let's not throw him out with the bathwater.

Why would you doubt Romo's ability to play meaningful games when he's played 15, 15 16 & 16 games before this year? His injury status and missed games this year were far from normal.

Back up Qb killed us and I agree the offensive line did not live up to it's billing. As for Jerry - spot on.

Fair points and thanks. Dez missing camp time is a very good predictor of he and most freak athletes like him running into an injury plaguing season because they are performance athletes who need the fine tuning. Same thing for Desean Jackson if I'm not mistaken missing preseason and getting an early hammy. I don't believe Dez is a very good receiver. I do think he is an exceptional athlete though and a top three one at that in the receiver ranks. If he were better at his craft I believe he would not be so severely ineffective when he is not at his physical peak. I don't think he handles the leadership role he has been given very well and It has not been earned in my opinion. I believe he is a bit of a caricature of himself with his "emotional leadership" that he displays but he is a work in progress as we all are. I hope he gets on the field and works hard with his QBs running routes and establishing chemistry this offseason. I also hope he works hard on how to help the BOYS win and how he can beat his corner beyond what he can physically do but instead with the mental prep and focus. I don't see evidence he has done that thus far and its needed. He is useless when he is not healthy and we still need him to be a key performer even when things aren't going well. He is our #1.

One would have to anticipate Romo missing time consistently since he is on a modified schedule already due to in my opinion the fragility of his body to sustain the rigors. We are on national tv quite a bit and our schedule will involve quick turnaround games to go on top of Romo's already modified schedule so him playing in most of the games to me at this point is more a bonus and good fortune. If Garrett is not exceptional at evaluating and making sure we have a great QB stable, then I have no idea why he has a good tenure with this or any team. The very thing he was an expert at is the worst thing about this team.

Wait, what? Are you referring to Jason Witten?

Yes, there's no denying that Witten was a great player and has been a serviceable player this year. He's over
30 years of age and clearly slowing down which is a big detriment to the passing game. He is HOF for sure but,
every player has his day and it's time to begin the search for another blocking/passing TE IMVHO.

Spagnola has always been a microscope for how the organization feels.

The fact that he was disappointed that Moore didn't show out is just a reflection of Jerry Jones' disappointment.

If you believe what some posted in here, he was all excited last week.

Well, Moore laid an egg, like every other QB not named Romo.

Sorry, Jerry. Err, I mean, Mick.

One thing that has surprised me is that Mickey has, more than once, said on Talkin' Cowboys that the Cowboys should not have benched Weeden (he even said it right afet it occurred). It's not usual for him to say anything against any actions the team takes.

I long for the days when you and me argued until they would shut down the thread. You have always had a wisdom about this team, even when I was too pigheaded to get it. This is another gem. Hope your holidays were grand, my friend.

Seems to be one of if not our main downfield threat in the passing game, but maybe that's just me.
