Is Mickey Spagnola awesome or what? My favorite person to read or hear talk about the Cowboys period.

We all hate you, Mickey (aka Jerry's Hand puppet).

Haha, I knew someone would think I was him.
Just thought I'd pick a positive topic for my first post.
I definitely do not think he is Jerry's hand puppet.

No. I don't think his writing is very good. He can be immature in his responses to letters. Just not a big fan and rarely read his stuff any more. I gave him a good year of reading his articles and that was enough for me.

He definitely cares about the Cowboys and Ill give him and E for effort but hes often VERY wrong on what he reports especially concerning league policy and he is just awful on television.

The ego he has shown towards the girls on his radio show for the last couple fo years doesnt exactly endear him to me much either.

You're giving yourself away, Mickey.

I don't know about league policy, but last year I noticed his predictions and calls were pretty on.
How was right about Newman too...

He kept on talking about gambling being an automatic ban from the league when if you read the contract it doesnt say that and hes been saying that Johsnon has to wait until he gets signed to serve his suspension which is also incorrect.

Newman is a cowboy so i dont see how that pertains to league policy.

Id ont really care to evaluate farther than that but those are two recent and glaring inaccuracies.

His sources within the organization are no question good but you should expect that from the top guy for the Cowboy owned media outlet.
i dont hate him but sometimes his analysis leaves a bit to be desired.

Mickey is a fine writer--an appropriate mix of brevity and colloqualism. Not Hemingway or Dos Passos, mind you, but effective nonetheless. However, I would never ever regard him as an objective news source regarding Jerry and the Cowboys. I treat him as I do Michael Moore. His points are insightful on occasion, but his foremost intent is perpetuating his own agenda.

Mickey is a mouthpiece for the Cowboy organization. His job is to temper expectations when they're too high, reinvorgate the fan base when its distraught and, most importantly, deflect criticism from management (read Jerry Jones).

Also, I completely agree with the poster who metioned Mickey's juvenile behavior towards fans with whom he disagrees.

I agree with most of that, but as someone above mentioned, joseefus i think, he has in the past been very childish in his writing. I have noticed that irksome tone has diminished some this yr. And his work on the radio and tv is great.

From my recollection of Mickey's television work during the preseason, your analysis is fair. He didn't take every opportunity to point out plays that validated his articles or invalidated the opinions of those with whom he disgreed via email...as he's done in the past.

My only gripe about the Mickster is how he can really go off on people who don't agree with him and has this tone that seems to say, "You have no common football sense if you don't agree with me!"

All last year before Bledsoe was benched he really dogged on Tony Romo saying there is no possible way an undrafted free agent QB could lead this team out of a wet paper sack. He mocked the fans who brought up Romo. His favorite saying was, "There was a reason he went undrafted.".

Once again, It amazes me that journalist think they are the authority on whatever sport they are covering. In journalism school did they take "Football Theory" or "Mechanics of a perfect pass" along with their english and communication classes? Journalist have no more insight into the sport they cover than John Q. Six pack. They may have access that we don't have but true understanding of the game and whatnot...they are not our superiors.

He was really dead set on the pedigree thing and that really bothered me. Even Parcells was quick to say, he didn't care where or when he got them from, as long as they could play, it would be a wash.

As far as being in with upper management, that was a great article he wrote on Aaron Glenn....the day before he was released

To be fair, since QC left, his writing has steadily improved IMO. But that's just me.
