Did he do anything? I think he may have jumped offsides if I remember correctly. Other than that?

He played well. Got pressure. They didn't run well his way.

I know he's a whipping boy, and there appears to be nothing anyone can do or say to change who fans like and who fans blame, but I think Spears has been pretty solid. Like someone else said, he's a big part of the run defense, and that has been very good.

Speaking of, I was thinking about the quote that fans beat Spears up over. He made some comment after the Giants game about how the defense didn't need to be judged on that one game. Well, anyone wanting to re-examine the situation?

And just for the record, I'll bet that the defense has a few more hiccups too before the season is over. I just don't like seeing a guy get ripped unfairly.

Yep. He's been pretty solid the last 2 games, IMO.

He's playing a little better and is solid against the run, but he and Akin Ayodele have been relatively invisible. He isn't making mistakes, but he isn't making plays either.

Akin may be at risk of losing his job to Burnett, who adds incredible spark every time he steps on the field.

Yep - I just got off an IM chat with a friend of mine and made that exact comment. I noticed Burnett in the game tonight. Ayodele did very little.

FINALLY.

Ayodele had 5 tackles (tied for 3rd on the team) and I thought he was active in the middle.

Spears had 2 tackles.

That's nice, but he has to cover too...........Burnett is always around the ball.

Very true, to me it looked like Ayodele was supposed to be covering Olsen on the pass he caught at the goal line. You could see Akin start out with him and then he just let him go.

As a run stuffer he's a big body and reliable to use it, as a pass rusher he's not the sexiest pick.

He is what he is.

If he develops into something more...we'll soon find out. If not...I could live with him being a "run stuffer" specialist, who likes to jump around and do sack dances....minus the sacks.

He also adds the ability to fall down at the goalline.

Not sure Akin is in danger, yet.

He also got burned both times on Chicago's only scoring drive. The t.v. presented the play as if it was Roy's fault, and I originally thought it was, until I saw the repplay... Roy had to leave his man who was lined up at the far right, and he had totake a bad angle on Olsen.
