i know many of us think of the kicker when special teams are mentioned, but as all of you know, there is much more to it. The special teams units have had little to no impact on the first four games this year and it seems like this is carrying over from the last couple of seasons. Special teams could be a big boost for the success of this team, but I don’t see any game changing plays from these units and with these tough games coming up, Dallas will need all the help that they can get. Is it coaching, lack of return men, poor players in the gunner positions, or is this team settling for just average special team play? Any thoughts? It sure looks like a wasted opportunity.

JMO.....but I think special teams have been better than the last few years.....minus Maher. Dude makes me cringe.

I worry about extra points......push it right...... push it right....... push it right.

It looks as if they're willing to settle for par for the course. Take the safe route and don't make any mistakes.

I'd love to see them kickoff high and drop the ball at around the 5 yard line instead of through the endzone. I've seen teams do this and you can pin teams inside the 15. Also a chance at a fumble. Also a chance for a return but I think the pros out weigh the cons.

Maher does make me a nervous wreck, but I guess that what happens when you sign a CFL castoff. It seems to me, that our special teams does very little to help the team compared to the special teams of several other teams. Decent punt returns and kickoff returns are all but nonexistent in Dallas.

Punt returns are abysmal...... definitely agree.

Our ST seem to be really bad at blocking for our return guys.

Special teams.

The new fullback.

With literally no kickoff returns left, ya'll gotta sing a new song.

True. Our punt returns need blocking to open the lanes and we historically don't concentrate on that enough. That needs to change.

Special teams has way too many penalties and it's been like that for years.

When I think about our special teams. Three things come to mind..

Fair catches inside our own 15. And/or nonexistent return.

A penalty on us during the return. Usually a block in the back on the opposite side of the field.

Holding my breathe each time Maher lines up to kick. Field goal or extra point for that matter haha.

With the NFL moving kickoffs up to the 40yd-line some years back, along with the very recent 25yrd-line-spot on touchbacks, I wouldn’t expect much in the way of play-making opportunities on kickoffs, since most KOs aren’t being returned theses days

An occasional blocked punt or blocked FG attempt, or a forced-fumble on a punt return, every now and then, would be nice.

With such a large proportion of PRs ending up as fair catches, that's clearly another dying area.

Through 4 games we have returned 5 punts and 2 KOs.

I'd say emphasizing areas that see little action is not the best use of practice time.

Just fair catch every punt and NOT hold.

We seem to hold on 75% of punt returns lol

No need to emphasize . . . more like a need to even supply a reasonable amount of it. The results speak for themselves.
