Jerry will more than likely find a way to draft DMac (for those of us in the real world and not just fans of Barber) to finally make a splash and add that "wow" player to his offense. Jerry is no fool and sees this opportunity as something much more than drafting a player, but rather the marketing of a player with his new stadium and high profile franchise....what he finally does pay DMac will be but peanuts compared to what he will make in years to come in his new stadium...or what he could pay when the salary cap expires after the 2010 season as expected. So when Jerry continues to put on a show by throwing up smokescreens about money and draft picks considerations being an obstacle during his news conferences over the next two months when he is asked about trading up for DMac, don't believe him.

Jerry knows that several teams will be looking for a quality RB in FA, and by tendering Barber for a 1st and 3rd round pick, he is essentially killing two birds with one stone. If no teams bite by April 18th, Jerry get's to keep Barber at a reasonable price to team with DMac for a season and possibly force Barber into a one year deal at much less then what he and his agent were asking to make a SB run. You also save the heartache of having to explain to you're fans why you did not resign Barber if he is traded away for 1st and 3rd round draft picks...which is a no brainer. Why extend Barber to a long term deal when you already know that he will not be you're starter long term as proved by the way he has been used since day one as a Cowboy (even though he ran better then Julius), and you will still need to bring in another RB? To use the 22nd pick in the draft on another RB only to watch him back up Barber or out perform him, makes little sense. It is much easier to draft the RB of the future and to pay him as your franchise RB and not as your backup franchise RB, and then later finding a respectable backup at a reasonable price.

I don't think it has a single thing to do with DMAC. But why pay Barber a year before you have to? No one will give a 1st and 3rd, and you can evaulate him for a year as the true lead back. If he does well, you can sign him to a long-term deal next year.

WE WILL NOT TRADE UP TO GET MCFADDEN!!!! People need to get that in their heads. We are going to keep Barber unless someone wants him for a 1st and a 3rd, which I find highly unlikely because there are already several RB's in this draft that are going to be good.

Now that's a huge assumption theebs. And if I've read everything right. One paternity test was inconclusive, so he has to retake. And the other two will be born this summer and tests will be taken then. But if dude is about to make 30 mil guaranteed, I'm pretty sure his kids will be taken care of.

If I were a team like the Seahawks with the 25th pick in each round, I would be all over Barber.

a 1st and a 3rd seems like too low a price for Barber. How about a team like Tampa Bay who have a good enough team that they figure next years first would be somewhere near the 20s.

Does next years 20th pick and a 3rd sound too much for a player who can be a catalyst for your offense?

I'm just using Tampa as an example, I'm sure there are other decent teams who could use a back like Barber. Personally I'm surprised if no-one matches the tender.

]Jerry said he wanted a WOW player about a month or so ago, meaning I dont' think he would of even thought about KMoss since he would assume liek the rest of us the Pats would sign him or at minium franchise him for one year.

Jerry will more than likely find a way to draft DMac

MORE THAN LIKELY?
How about highly UNLIKELY!

Absolutely love Barber, but he's going to have a longer and more successful career if he continues to split carries. He can't handle 20 a game, no matter how tough you are - those hits start to add up.

We're so spoiled... We used to enter training camp with Troy Hambrick and Eddie George as our featured back.

McFaddens character and judgement to date already a red flag. Two brawls and incidents at bar one leaving his foot injured. Three looming paternity tests popping up. His Mommy driving around in a $100K suv Pre Bowl game.

$30 Million and to mortgage two to 3 #1's and MB3. Laughable candidly

Cowboy fans should love that kind of news, if he slips like Quinn or Rodgers we'd be able to put a star on his helmet and keep Barber. If he goes past the Bengals at 9, he'd likely slip to the Broncos at 12 - and Jerry would be foaming at the mouth if he gets past the Jets anyway.

It takes more than being a stud to be a good father. A lot of men can sire kids but not all of them are fathers.

You are correct, but isn't it a bit presumptious to assume he wouldn't be a good father? Granted, he's immature, but this is one of those you never know situations. Kids can make you grow up quickly.

I may be wrong, but wasnt he usually getting 15-17 carries a game at least last season? IMO, that isnt much of a difference. But I do think he will be splitting carries still, with Mr Barber getting the majority. As long as the Cowboys dont fall behind by a big margin, he should still be getting 20+ carries per game.

16 divided by 204. 12.7 per game in 2007 i believe. Barber has no business carrying the ball more than 15 times a game, or 240 a year, maybe as much as 250.

That leaves about 8-10 carries for another back. JJ got 164 last year, so you can see nothing more than a 10 carry back is needed BUT we certainly shouldn't put the strain of 20+ carries on a back with that brutal a style. Just not good for MBIII's long term projection. I'd like to get 6-7 more years out of him, not 3-4. I'm willing to bet this time next year my projections of 15-16 carries is closer than your 20+.

Edit: Please remember MBIII also caught 44 passes, so he ended up touching the ball 248 times. Not to mention the killer pass blocking he provided. I think all told he was hit as many times, after breaking Tkls, as most any back in the NFL, truth be told, and that's at 204 carries.
