Speed WR early, not so fast

Like many, I watch a lot of football, not just the Cowboys, and what I found strange when watching other teams was that their receivers seemed to get separation frequently on routes.

When you watch the Cowboys, its like the DB might as well be riding piggy back on all of our receivers, not just Dez.

I believe this transcended into frustrating Dak, and affecting his play. Not saying Dak couldn't have been better, but it certainly didn't do him any favors.

A non suspended, more responsible Zeke, will go a long way in helping to correct this, maybe the staff change as well, more creativity is needed desperately, but "skill set" is the area that must be upgraded.

Witten is a HOF lock, about the only player on this roster worthy of a Jersey purchase IMO, that says a lot.

Once a great player, still a good player, but there has to be an upgrade here.. Rico, Swaim, Hanna, draft pick, need to establish that security with Dak to TE presence.

SPEED THREAT,, cant stress it enough, easily said, not so easy to come by, esp if your relying on just immediately drafting that guy, its just not that easy, esp in this draft.

For every JuJu Smith Shuster there is always that John Ross, that the Bengals drafted with the 9th overall.

So you better be damn well comfortable in investing that much into actually adding that "speed threat", but to be quite honest it might be a good thing this year because this draft doesn't present to many burner WRs that might tempt us early.

In this draft this team needs to stay focused on what its been doing and draft big... bully draft all the way, maybe we find a small school burner to add speed to the wr core in the later rounds, or make a trade, FA.

Just draft big, this team has a few steps lead in getting bigger and stronger than the rest of the league, and this draft is very well suited to continue to support that agenda, that build model.

Ive been on the Vea wagon since day one, it seems that others are buying in now.

Would love to see sole focus on getting bigger, nasty on defense, and if the only pick made in this draft offensively was a big mauling Guard I would be ecstatic.

I wouldn't mind double dipping twice, but I know we won't do that.
Not going to cut Williams, Bease, Switzer, or Brown(4) and I'm sure Jerry will give Dez one more year(5).

Someone like Moncrief or Richardson in FA and then a receiver in day 2/3(BPA).

Think we could go 6 deep again at WR.

As for drafting one early, I think Ridley could be a play right away type of receiver. But yes, typically rookie receivers don't exactly play all that great their first year.

Disagree a tad. I think having a speed receiver actually opens up the running game. I think the first thing a DB and a Safety do is look away from our wide receivers and look for the run because of Zeke. If there was a burner out there on the end that won't happen because those DB's will have zero chance of flipping their hips and catching up. As Moss you to say "if I'm even I'm leaving". Right now, I venture to say almost any DB knows he can catch up to our wideouts because of our lack of footspeed on the outside. Now, is it a first round pick? I'd say no but if there is a burner out there in round 2-4 I'd say it should strongly be considered.

Quickness will help Dak more than speed. Ridley and Kirk have both ins spades.

I like Vea and wouldn't hate the pick but you would think after they passed on Sharrif Floyd that people would learn that the Cowboys are not picking the 335 lbs NT. Paea, Price, and Collins were not the problem with run defense.

Smith, Wilson, and a rusty Hitchens making run fills was as was Jones' poor tackling. If you want defense Derwin James and Tremaine Edwards are both more likely and more helpful.

I do like the idea of drafting Billy Price to play OG. Smith Price Fred Martin LC would be sweet.

That’s 7 wrs

I think speed would certainly help but there are so many guys in the league that blazed the 40 and have been sub par.

Give me the guy that runs good routes, has quickness, catch radius and great hands.

Also - I'm going to spread the blame and say part of the problem with the passing game is Daks ball placement. NFL open is different than college open, and he's got to get more procise in that area.

Should of worded it better.

Would prefer to add two more and let someone redundant go but I have a feeling all 5 guys currently signed through 2019(+) won't be cut.
While we did add Switzer last year, and Bease is an UFA in 2019 I don't think we let go of a safety option for Dak for an unknown in R.S.
Williams deal is pretty much a 2 year guaranteed deal and I doubt we give up on Brown that quickly.
Maybe we do add two more and release Dez in June but I just have a feeling Jerry will give him one more year.

So, I think the team will add a receiver in some fashion, but it'll either be FA or the draft.
If it's the draft, don't think they go round one.

Brown should be given up on unless he’s converted to TE. I don’t get what they see in him

Size, hands, but he is extremely green. Better fit on a team with a true WR1 and WR2,,, this team has neither, so no time to develop Noah properly.
But I bet after he is long gone from this roster that Noah becomes the next Mohamed Sanu in this league on the right team.

Possible but I don’t see a point of him being on the team this year.

Agree, but if we had a Julio Jones, or an AJ Green as the WR1, or even better supporting cast to Dez, than I could see Noah Brown finding a developmental role as a WR5.
As of now, cant see much hope of Brown making this roster 2018.

I will just leave this here:

Speed receivers are alien to this braintrust as they are obsessed with other qualities.

They took AB in the bottom of the 6th.
Schuster bottom of 2nd.
M Bryant at 18 in the 4th.
While Bryant has had his issues, that's a well executed value investment on WR talent from one team.

So we don't like fast WRs, DTs in the first round.......... who else?

The rigidity of this staff is a clear issue with this staff. So when Jerry talks about how they are madly working on revamping the offensive scheme for Prescott, part of me thinks it BS because these guys are beyond stubborn.

I tend to agree. People overrated Brown. I think his ceiling is as a decent 4th or 5th WR.

I disagree completely. A big NT will help not only our LB's but our secondary too. I know they wont do it. But your reasoning as to why is wrong.

Antonio Brown was drafted in the 6th rounds. I think we would all agree he gets seperation. There is another clone that can be had in KeKe Coutee in our own state that is very similar with the speed threat later on.

JG is still trying to emulate the 90's cowboys with WR's over 6' tall, that run in 4.5 and up. That requires precise route running and to get into a spot when the ball is thrown in this offense.

I'm with you though Vea is my guy as well. We passed on Shariff Floyd, but Floyd couldn't carry Vea's jock. I've already nicknamed him the game wrecker!

He would be taken off the field for quick penetrators on passing downs. It not only will it not happen but it doesn't make sense in this scheme.

Ive said before the only WR Id take at 19 is Ridley.....but the lack of production from WRs in Rd 1 over the last 2 or 3 drafts scares me.
Id rather draft a DT or OL....then get Christian Kirk,DJ Moore,Dasean Hamilton or other in Rd 2 or later.
