IRVING, Texas -- For weeks Philadelphia has been upset at the amount of unnecessary hits Michael Vick has taken. The Eagles cannot complain anymore.

Cowboys linebacker Anthony Spencer was fined $12,500 for his personal foul penalty on Vick in the second quarter of Sunday’s 30-27 loss to Philadelphia at Cowboys Stadium.

Spencer was deemed to have hit Vick in the head area after the quarterback released a pass. Two plays later Vick was intercepted by Gerald Sensabaugh. Spencer was not fined for his hit on Vick near the sideline in the first quarter, which also drew the ire of the Eagles.

At least Im glad he wasn't fined for the sidelines hit (Deion all but came out and said it was a white man's conspiracy that Vick didn't get the foul. ) Vick was still inbounds when Spencer first touched him. I guess Spencer is still guilty for having the audacity to follow the rules of physics and allowing inertia to maintain the trajectory of force after Vick's foot hit the line.

Honestly the fines and penalties for hits like this are getting to be absurd. Just put the flags on them.

First I was pissed off because they called it 'Roughing the Passer'. Not even remotely close to roughing. Make up your tiny little minds

What's absurd is Reid acting like a three year old and complaining to the refs that FOOTBALL players are hitting a mobile, run first QB. Maybe they should allow Vick to wear flags................I can't believe how irate Reid was with the first Spencer hit by the sideline. THEN they kept showing the freakin' play in super-slo-mo. Of course it looked close. At game speed.......not even close, IMO.

Spencer lowered his head to contact Vicks chest and happened to brush the face mask.

As I watched that hit on Vick Sunday night, I didn't think it was an illegal hit. I thought it was BS. When I watch the replay, I still don't think it's an illegal hit. I thought Spencer hit him just as he released the ball and I thought Spencer lead with his facemask, which is what I was always taught to do. I don't think he lead with the crown of his helmet or deliberately went to the helmet on Vick. Vick is listed at something like 6-0 but really, he's probably closer to 5-10, 5-11. Spencer is probably 6-3. It's going to be hard to avoid helmet contact with Vick when you have a height disparity like that. That's just the truth of it IMO.

I agree. You leave the pocket and take off on the run you lose the protection granted the QB you become a RB

I think it goes to NFL designated charities, so that is an added plus.

This protecting the QB thing is getting out of hand. On the play where Spencer got the fine, he had his head up and put his facemask into the the man with the ball just as he should have, and the helmet contact was merely the result of two people of similar size coming into contact. If this is a foul and a finable offense then tacklers are going to have to resort to merely running by the side of the QB and trying to arm tackle him. Actually wrapping up wont be allowed.

As for the sideline hit that wasn't fined. At least they got that one right. That was really the more agressive play of the two, but the reality is that if Spencer slows up on that play Vick continues down the sideline for a big gain. If it were Peyton Manning it would be one thing. Those guys would have difficulty eluding Spencer or cutting upfield, but Vick is too good an athlete to ease up on because he is looking for that kind of opening and can get past a tackler in the blink of an eye.

He didn't get fined for the sideline hit, it was for the sack when he hit helmet to helmet.(which wasn't much) Olshansky also hit him helmet to helmet on the same play.

The big fines make headlines, but you don't hear much about the appeals process that they can go through. The NFL wants the press for the fines, but like newspaper retractions, you don't see them because they are on page 11.
