Spencer Nets NFC Defensive Honors

For the first time in his three-year career, outside linebacker Anthony Spencer has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Week.
Spencer recorded five tackles, two sacks, two quarterback pressures and a forced fumble in the Cowboys’ 24-0 shutout win over the Eagles. The award is now the second for the Cowboys in three weeks. DeMarcus Ware was named the NFC’s top defensive player for his effort against the Saints when we recorded two sacks and two forced fumbles.
Spencer becomes the first Cowboys defensive player – other than Ware – to claim this award since Anthony Henry in 2007 and the first pass-rusher or lineman since Leon Lett in 1996.
Spencer has certainly come on strong of late. After recording no sacks or turnovers in the first nine games, Spencer’s fourth-quarter interception against the Commanders seemed to spark this latest surge. He had two sacks against the Raiders the following week, with 1.5 against the Saints and another half-sack against Washington.
In the last seven games, Spencer has recorded all six sacks and 15 of his 34 pressures.
