Hypothetical plan:

Cowboys would like to commit to Anthony Spencer long term, but are uneasy committing to Jenkins long term due to injury or other reasons. From a cap perspective, they feel like they can only keep 1. They may have a hard time getting Jenkins to play with that shoulder for the $1mm he is owed with his free agency on the horizon.

The coaches love Spencer as a 1st -2nd down player and maybe they feel like he has been miscast as a lde in nickle. They may think that Vinnie Curry, Irvin or one of the more natural pass rush guys could play 3rd downs while Spencer could play next to Ware as the under tackle, much like Justin Tuck (of course Tuck has 20 lbs on Spencer).

Or you could take Gilmore in the first and trade Jenkins for a pick to a team (Titans, Rams etc.) that has the need and cap room to commit to a pretty good young corner.

No one will give anything of value for Jenkins with his shoulder surgery and upcoming rehab. Better to keep him, let him recover and play for Dallas this year. It's a contract year for him, he will play.

That's what I think as well.

I doubt anyone is going to give us anything of meaningful value for Jenkins in that he's coming off surgery.

What we should do is let him heal properly, even if it takes all of TC and pre-season, draft another 2 CBs, and then see where we are with Jenkins end of the season.

I'd expect Jenkins to play well as he can this upcoming season since it's his contract year anyway.
