Spencer

The biggest issue in the secondary is the coverage of the ILBs, IMO.
They don't have a great free safety, only a pair of servicable ones so Sensabaugh doesn't get to move up as much.

Could you imagine Rolando McClain between Ware and Spencer.......that would be simply sick.....too bad McClain is going in the top 10.

The safeties are adequate but the CBs are outstanding as a group so it is a bit of a wash. Overall the DBs are very good but the ILBs leave much to be desired. Ware and Spencer are both effective when put into coverage.

Or even Spikes.

Either guy.

Or put Earl Thomas as the Free Safety.

I do like Alan Ball though. That guy is a player.

We don't need to put them in coverage.. We need them to kill QBs..

None of our MLB can cover. Jenkins is the only guy i trust in the secondary..

And your point is???

Just pointing that out. Barbie could have had those 2 sacks. Well everyone but Barbie could have had those sacks. I like Spencer, don't get me wrong.

Rolando McClain next to Spencer and D-Ware would make me wet my paints! (probably shouldn't have admitted that but oh well, :laugh2: )

Give me Earl Thomas any day of the week.....with the way Jenkins is ball hawking, adding Thomas and even that corner from Cal, would give us the makings of a flock in our secondary.

Sean Witherspoon is another option

btw, can't wait till Brandon Williams gets healed up and Butler gets this year under his belt

talk about a plethora of pass-rushers

Newman is good but falls asleep once in awhile.

Scandrick is very good but does have lapses in concentration. People have to remember that he has the toughest assignment on the field in the slot.

What I always like about Spencer is his motor. I've never seen him take plays off. He'll have a brainfart once in awhile but he always hustles.

not to be a downer, but i could have made both of the sacks he made. if anything he just figured out a way to become cloaked.

Butler was the one who got to Brees and althered that deep throw to Meachem late in the game that went out of bounds.

I do think we need to let some other guys out there once in awhile so Ware and Spencer can get some rest. Did you see the heat Ware brought on that last play of the game after the challenge? I want to see him fresh like that all the time when we are in those pass rushing situations.

Ware said it himself that he thought the fresh legs helped him do what he did in the 4th quarter.

Weren't his sacks when he went unblocked to the QB?

Don't penalize the player because the defensive coordinator made some great calls. ;)

He was unblocked on his two sacks........ But like someone mentioned, he was "blocked" on his sack that got taken away via penalty.

AND he had a near sack with :12 seconds left that would have sealed it but Bree's arm was going forward (also blocked).

Don't try an discredit the game Spencer had. Him and Ware bodied up that those Saints tackles.

First it was "Yeah he's doing everything good, but he doesn't have the sacks to show for it."

Now when he gets the sacks, "But he was unblocked."

*waits for* "Yeah he's getting sacks, but that's only because Ware gets so much attention."

Former Longhorn Derrick Johnson is wasting away in Kansas City. They are not using him right. We should trade for him in the offseason. He is leaps and bounds better than McClain. McClain will take at least 2-3 years to develop. Johnson is bigger, faster, smarter, and cover better and much better tackler. I'd also get Sergio Kindle from Texas.
