Lets Say Samuels commands around 80 Million. Newman around 60 million. Both contracts for 6 or 7 years. Who would be the better signing for the Cowboys?

I'll take Newman if he wants 80 million and Samuels wants 60 million. He isn't flashy with his INTs, but he shuts down his half of the field without question.

Newman is a Cowboys and bleeds blue and silver. Jerry isn't going to let him go. He will probably sign him before free agency, unless Newman wants to test free agency.

It's sort of a goofy question since Samuels will be a FA and Newman will not.

Keep T-new and draft a young corner - let someone else pay huge dollars for Samuels. Dallas will need to keep spending wisely in order to keep momentum they have gained in the last few years.

I'd take Samuel over Newman any day, but we're not going to go after Samuels and pay him more than NE would.

We are going to look at the middle range FA CBs for depth, and we'll definitely look to draft one on day one this year. Reeves has proven he can start, and he'll only get better...we need depth...Nate Jones won't be on the team next year.

Yes but if Samuels is signed Newman will not be signed the following year.

I'm a little concerned about Newmans age but I'd love to keep our own home grown product. Despite his nagging injuries this year, I think he's relatively young as far as wear and tear. I'm also a big fan of Samuels.

Somewhat contradictory...Newman will go where the money is, like all players. He's a very good CB, but a guy who doesn't play the ball better than he does and get INT's will not command the top FA dollars that you've seen other CB's get in the past. There will be serious interest in him, but I don't think you'll see anyone wanting to throw Bailey/Samuels money at him.

That's probably good news for Dallas.

And why is it that almost every single offensive coordinator makes it a point not to attack the side of Newman? Every defensive coordinator will be screaming at their GM to go get Newman. He may not be recongized as flashy, but I can guarantee you that he will command top-dollar. Do you honestly think that Newman isn't going to command top dollar, when Leonard Davis got a big pay day? Even the Commanders were willing to pay Davis a huge check. He wasn't commanding that much attention, and people thought he was overpaid.

Yes, he will go where the money is, and Jerry, is going to give him his money. The point I was making is that the only way Newman will not be a Cowboy is if he doesn't want to be in Dallas anymore. Money will not be a hindrance in signing him, IMHO. ANd Jerry will franchise Newman if he has to. I won't be surprised if he locks Newman up before free-agency, just as he did with Ratliff and Romo. We spent many years trying to lock down a shut-down corner, and Newman is that corner.

That is the thing. Samuels already has his championships, so he is simply after the big pay-day. WHy the hell would he want to re-sign with the Patriots, when teams are going to be willing to give him a butt load of money?

He probably won't and the Pats (much like the Eagles), hold a strong line when it comes to getting that payday.

I won't say he is looking for the payday like Deion (merc), but he certainly will use his leverage.

So you think Dallas is going to sign Samuels this year and carry Newman and Henry on the roster again for next season?

This isn't "Madden" folks...

There are cap issues not to mention you're very likely to piss off either Neman and or Henry. Plus what sort of message does it give the other players on the team?

It's not going to happen.

A first round pick will be used on a corner and that player will be worked up through the system.

I am not sold on Reeves as a starter....He is marginal as a starting CB and better suited for a nickel back IMO...

Parcells isn't gonna drop that kinda paper this early in the game on one player - no way - and he shouldn't.

That team is swiss cheese - not one player away.

Theyre going to resign Newman everyone knows that. I dont even see what the debate is. Should Dallas have targeted Nate Clements last march instead of Bigg????(exactly). I think Stephen and Jerry Jones know what their doing with contracts.

Samuels is a great CB but there is no way he comes to dallas. Hamlin/Barber/Ware/Newman/TO/Canty/James are all going to be needing contracts in the few years. If we signed Samuels and let got Hamlin...I dont even know what Id do.

That defense is so old, and needs a signature player to carry on for the future. Samuels coould be that guy.

Not saying it is a lock, but I could see it happening. And the Dolphins have cap room I think.

But we agree that that team has to be rebuilt.

Fully healthy give me Newman any day over Samuels. That gap isn't that big, but Tnew is better. I am thinking Jerrah will be looking at a 5 year deal.

I remember when Newman signed his rookie contract and I believe he has a monster cap number for his final year...

I wonder if Adam can tell us how much his cap charge will be for his last year...

If it was ever adjusted, I would not have that info.

I did however assume that Newman might have had a new contract by now... But not yet I guess.

Over the past couple of years, Samuels has been the primary targeted defensive back in his secondary. Teams target him almost like they do Jacques Reeves or Anthony Henry. This would absolutely infuriate the very same people that typically want to sign him.

Teams avoid Newman.
