Definition of a “splash play”- an explosive offensive play of 20 yards or more. Interestingly, the number of splash plays a team has in a season is an excellent indicator of a playoff team.

Last year, the 12 NFL teams that made the playoffs averaged 65 splash plays for the season, which works out to be about 4 per game in a 16 game season. The saints had the most SPs last year with 85, and the Cowboys had 48- which was not the worst, but below average.

The reason splash plays are a good measure for a playoff team is it shows an offense’s ability to keep the defense from loading up the box or staying with stifling press coverages that choke off the short passing game like so many defenses did to us last year. Having Zeke will go a long way to open things up IF Dak and the passing game can hit some big plays to challenge the D.

Sunday against Carolina, we will be facing a defense that likes to blitz more than any other team in football. There should be some opportunities for some big plays. Time for some splash plays!

Dallas will struggle with splash plays this year. Its why I would get Rico involved early because I don't see much mismatches on field offensively for Dallas at moment. There is room here for Dak to blow up (in good way) but he would have to take major step in speed of his progressions and Austin & Gallup will need to surprise combined with Rico increasingly becoming threat. There is alot of hoping there but were allowed to do that before 1st game :)

New Orleans had the most splash plays but Mark Ingram faced stacked boxes on 42% of his rushing attempts compared to only 35% for Zeke.

Jason Garrett splash play. Clap!

Yeah baby. Right there near the cozy middle. lol

We have to hit those plays with one on one coverage. Dak likes to protect the ball, if they aren’t open he looks short or check down. If they are covered he is gonna have to use his feet to buy time. Hoping they roll him out some.

Don’t abandon the run. Any play could be a big one with our O-Line and Elliot. And use him in the pass game this year.

Hit some seem plays down the middle. I see teams use the middle of the field all the time against us. That should be Rico’s specialty.

Are you Rico's dad?

Less 2 tight end sets and more 3 receiver sets so you have better rpo options. Don't just run, toss a quick pass to zeke. Spread out the defense, force them into man, run over them.
It's exactly what I've been preaching. The two-TE formation bogs down the offense.

We do t have splash play personnel, scheme, or coach.

This doesn't lessen my concerns about Dak and the passing game. Got to take advantage of those stacked boxes.
