I love Spokane, but all my memories of it are 25+ years old, and are from the perspective of a little kid... riding the Carrousel in the park is one of my favorite memories.

I'd agree that Coeur d'Alene is a beautiful place to visit. There are a number of lakes in that region that are very nice as well, but going up to Idaho there is definitely a great short trip.
My whole family is from the eastern part of Oregon and Washington, and my grandparents lived in Spokane, so I would visit it a few times a year for my whole youth.
There's an old Catholic cemetery in town that is a historic landmark, and it was founded by my great grandmother, and was dedicated by my dad back in the days when he was a Catholic priest.
