It's been awhile since I've posted one of these, mainly because I haven't seen my Insider friend in almost a year. He works as a contractor in my office so we see each other in passing every once in awhile. I need to keep this short and sweet because i'm slammed at work, but wanted to share because each time I have in the past, quite a few of you really appreciated the input (while a bunch of you also remain skeptical, which is totally fine by me).

Some of the input I've received in the past when speaking to "John":
  • Greg Hardy didn't have a snowball's chance in hell in remaining here because his attitude was terrible
  • Brice Butler was extremely arrogant and wouldn't have a future here
  • Dez time was limited
  • Jason Garrett was locked in and far from the hot seat
There's more but it's not coming to me because it was such a long time ago. I do remember that he was right about a lot of things, but not right about everything which makes sense since he's not on the coaching staff.

In seeing him this time here is some of the more recent input he provided:
  • TTaco has a terrible attitude. Has butted heads with Haley consistently and while he has the natural talent, he lacks a positive attitude and isn't coachable. Said he wouldn't be surprised to see us waive him even while still on rookie contract.
  • Says Dorrance Armstrong is for real and is the guy to keep an eye on rather than Taco.
  • Says Jaylon Smith is still only at 85-90% and has A LOT more to offer as he continues to heal.
  • Says going after Earl Thomas in FA is unlikely as we don't feel the need to pay him especially after coming off of season ending injury.
  • Believes Tyron Smith should be shut down for the year. The guy is seriously banged up from head to toe.
  • Says Cole Beasley's attitude is crap. Mentioned a play where the ball hit him in the head and rather than trying to make the play he stopped and looked at Dak before realizing the ball was still in play. Said he got ripped by coaches for not continuing until the whistle was blown. (i didn't watch the Indy game so i don't know what he's referring to). But said Cole will most likely be gone next year
  • Said Linehan is most likely gone along with Kellen Moore.
  • Here's where it gets crazy......
  • Says we aren't as high on Dak as we say we are. Doesn't believe he gets a big contract. Says we really like Mullens from San Fran. ????? Can see us making a trade for him at some point.
  • I'm a Dak supporter so I obviously didn't want to hear this but I'm just reporting
  • Says we'd also be open to Romo coming in to join the coaching staff. I know it's crazy, I SWEAR i wouldn't make this up. maybe my guy is full of it, but this is what he told me.
That's all I have for you guys. Please don't PM me asking me to ask him specific questions, as I don't know when i'll see "John" again. Please don't ask me to prove my source is real, as I truly don't care to prove anything. I'm not here for fame or credit. I'm just a cowboys fan sharing info I've received as I'd like anyone else to as well. If I remember anything else I'll add to this thread later!

I have no idea if any of this is true but some of it makes sense. Thanks for the info, because even if false, it at least gives us stuff to talk about!

- I think Beasley absolutely can be a prima donna at times and I can see the coaches sometimes thinking he has an attitude issue. It fits is MO frankly. Likes to complain a lot, blame other issues than himself, etc. And that play against the Colts was frustrating as hell. He totally gave up on it.

- At this point, they can't shut Smith down but frankly, it's not a bad idea. He's clearly hurting out there. He used to have a devastating arm where he could knock a guy off his pass rush move but you can see at times he's struggling with the "punch". I am not giving up on him but this staff needs to think this offseason about a legitimate contingency plan beyond Fleming.

- I absolutely think Linehan is gone unless this team makes a SB run.

- I also think given Stephen's propensity to be skittish in free agency with big name guys, that Thomas is a long shot unless he takes a big discount. I think Stephen will be afraid of the money AND the injury issues. But I hope to god, they don't think they are fine there with Heath and Woods. That would be insane.

- I want to believe Armstrong is for real but he's shown little and it's not like we are dripping with DE talent here. After Lawrence and Gregory, we have squat. Is he even getting a lot of reps? I should check the snap counts.

- The Dak part is interesting and if true, hmmmmm, it makes for an interesting offseason. Mullens? Eh.

Thanks for posting. Totally agree on Linehan, Jaylon and Dorance Armstrong.

Cole Beasley mailing it in isn't insider info, that play where he gave up on a tipped pass and it hit him in the head should be made into an animated gif and posted here daily.

Oh this makes me happy, there is hope.

Best part of this post was "arent as high on Dask as we say we are".
I have always said lets just keep building our toolbox, sign more talent in FA next year and have the ideal organization setup so Dak can reach his potential or we can find someone else. Who knows what will happen after next year. Let's take advantage of paying Dak 700K. I love that numbers advantage we have in the salary cap.

Thanks man I remember some of your posts and while some remained skeptical I didn’t see any reason not to believe you. Most of the things you did say in the past did hold water. So thanks for the info. I can see the interest in Nick Mullens BTW, he’s got a bit of that “wildcatter” in him, I don’t care what anyone says JJ likes that stuff.

Mullins would be a good addition. Let him and Dak compete through camp next year.

I work at southern Miss and was frequently around Mullins (and was at his wedding). Really good kid and more talented than he got credit for.

He wouldn’t be expensive either.

I know the play with Beasely and I was thinking that, "why are you looking back?"

Some is encouraging and some discouraging

Had a Mavs insider until a few years ago and it was awesome knowing some of the eminent moves before the masses. Hope this guy has been barking up the right trees for information.

Thanks for sharing.

And we will never forget that day.

Wow, this is kind of big...

  • Says we aren't as high on Dak as we say we are. Doesn't believe he gets a big contract. Says we really like Mullens from San Fran. ????? Can see us making a trade for him at some point.

Yea, that was the only comment that threw me off. I wouldn't be upset if that was true but Jerry and Stephen have been talking contract extensions about him since the offseason. Why BS over that? One thing to be grey over possibly cutting a guy.

Hmmmm... the clerk at my local liquor store is named "John" and said the same thing.

Seriously though, I will gladly accept any glimmer of hope that we are not going to throw big money at Dak.

BTW. Taco does not have the natural talent. His college tape was decent at best. His SPARQ score was average. He has good size, that's it. Now hearing he has attitude problems, he can be gone. I love DLaw and Gregory, like Armstrong, and TCraw has been solid. Send a message to the rest of the team by cutting bait with a former first rounder.
