With some disagreement arising in terms of my "Top 5 Training Camp Predictions" thread, I decided to write the top 5 position battles with 5 being the least and 1 being the best battle:

5) Starting fullback job: Julius "Tulius" Crosslin VS Deon "Cricket" Anderson

"Tulius" VS "Cricket." I can't help it but think of that season-changing play where Tony Romo went down in Arizona in OT. "Cricket" was the main culprit on that play and my opinion of him as a player has gone down ever since that day. This will be an interesting and important battle because the fullback still plays a somewhat meaningful role in the Dallas offense, especially in goalline situations. "Tulius" has nothing to lose and everything to gain in the situation.

Prediction: Tulius wins the FB job. Anderson will open his own cricket shop in Dallas.

4) Nickel LB job: Bobby Carpenter VS Stephen Hodge VS Jason Williams

I believe this job is Carpenter's to lose and hopefully the best man will win. Hodge could be the Keith Davis clone on special teams but he also showed a lot of promise in coverage during the OTA's as well, although an injury may slow his progress. Williams is raw but has a lot of potential. I don't see Williams winning the job this season, but he'll definitely be groomed to eventually be the starter in the base defense by next season or 2011.

Prediction: Carpenter finally wins the nickel job with Hodge breathing down his neck.

3) The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and possible 6th WR spot

Other than Roy Williams being the #1, we really have no idea what the depth chart at WR will look like. We know Austin and Crayton will make the team, but what will their roles be? Sam Hurd is coming back from injury and looked good in OTA's. Surprise, surprise: Stanback got hurt again so his status is up in the air.

Prediction: Crayton wins the #2 job, Austin is the #3 as the deep threat, Hurd as the #4 and our best blocking WR, Kevin Ogletree and Manuel Johnson make the team as well.

2) The starting left guard spot: Kyle Kosier VS Montrae Holland

I believe Kosier will win this job by a pretty good margin. The Cowboys know what they have when Kosier is healthy; they have a SMARTER offensive line. Kosier is our Jeff Saturday or Shaun O'Hara, the guy who will make the proper pre-snap calls. Holland showed some promise last year, although it was mostly against the 49ers and Seahawks. Hopefully Holland will do well enough at the center position so Proctor gets kicked off this team.

Prediction: Kosier wins the left guard job and Holland is the "swing man" at both guard positions.

1) The #2 cornerback job: Mike Jenkins VS Orlando Scandrick

I'll say it right now. I'm a Scandrick guy. I think he showed flashes of greatness last year as a ROOKIE. The sky is the limit for this kid and I think he could be our #1 CB when Newman decides to call it quits. Jenkins was a 1st round pick and he'll be the front-runner for the job. I like Jenkins as well; he's a hard worker and has worked hard this offseason to have a big year in 09'. I feel good about the CB position for us this year. Although I wish Scandrick could be the #2, he'll be on the field a lot anyway since the Nickel CB position is basically a starting position.

Prediction: Jenkins is the #2 corner and Scandrick is the #3 and Nickel CB.

The fullback battle doesn't get talked about much, but agree that it could get interesting. I really liked Cricket on ST...he can be a real missle, I liked watching him covering kickoffs.

Cricket wins at FB. Also your ridiculous plug for Ogletree makes me cringe. Seems like every season people find a relatively obscure player at a "competitive" position and try and pump him up (see: Amendola, Danny)

I don't see Stanback making this team. If my plug is so ridiculous, why don't you tell me what the WR depth chart will look like?

Holland wins the guard competition. Even if Kosier did win, he wouldnt win easily.

I think Holland fits the guard mold that Houck is looking for moreso than Kosier. I must say, I was very suprised at what a great pick-up Kosier was. He has been a real solid player for us and was sorely missed when he went down with the Ankle?? injury...

I really don't think that we'll carry6 WRs on the 53 man roster, especially if we're serious about carrying two kickers.

As far as Ogletree goes, is it really that much of a stretch that he can make the team over a 7th round draft pick (Johnson)?
