My sources in Washington tell me that running back Shaun Alexander looked good in this morning's workout and, if he passes the physical, will be signed by the club. Alexander showed up in good shape and did enough that club officials recommended adding him. He is expected to be paid the league minimum, and will serve as a backup to Clinton Portis -- in effect, taking the spot of Ladell Betts, who will be out 3-4 weeks.

Wow what a waste of a roster spot and a waste of a good time to get a younger guy in there and get some reps with Portis.

He may be fresh enough to do some damage esp when used as a second back. He may be finished but then again maybe not. Never cared for him and now he's the enemy.

On the trade deadline day, the Washington Commanders made headlines of their own without trading a player.

The Commanders signed former NFL MVP running back Shaun Alexander to a one-year deal and punter Ryan Plackemeier. Both players will be reunited with Commanders coach Jim Zorn, whom they worked with in Seattle.

REUNITED AND IT FEEEELS SO GOOOD!!!!!!!
This guy is a chump: very good oline in wash., but he sucks.

Nah. He might not even be the 2nd string RB. We'll see who gets more carries - SA or Rock Cartwright.

When you have the leading rusher in the NFL on your team, this is simply a nice luxury in the form of insurance.
