I think one of the best motivating tools that affects all players and coaches in this era of pro football is fan/media perception.
I feel like now more than ever players feel disrespected by everything and again in a twisted way that motivates them.
it seems recently that every team that is told it cant usually does.
I think players and coaches do pay very close attention to the media and to the fans and I think it plays a large role.
That is why sites like pro football talk really make me angry. That site in my opinion is terrible for the league. It is nothing but negative and everything is cast in a bad light. No matter what happens or what is said it is always portratyed as a gotcha moment and then you read the fan comments and it is one of the sorriest displays you can imagine.
so when you have players and coaches reading that garbage i just dont think its good. When the media jumps on a bandwagon they always overdue it. I just prefer a little more sanity.
Like I said the way I view it is a little twisted, but I absolutely think it matters. The vikings game last year was this in a nutshell. Dallas was the lower seed and the underdog. The media started acting like Dallas was just going to blow them out etc.....the vikings got ahold of that and used it perfectly, it was like the script was written for the coaching staff.. Now had we played better it would not have mattered. I think that is one of the reason childress and favre ran it up, because they were running around acting like they were being disrespected even though they were at home, the higher seed and favored.
so again, I hope its not a whole summer of articles about Dallas and the superbowl from lazy national writers.
