Will miss extended period of time. For comparison, Matt Hasselbeck missed 4 games last season. So Free may be out a month. That sucks.

BTW, just heard on ESPN 1033

Free has sprained MCL

Calvin "Lucky" Watkins reports that rookie LT Doug Free sprained the MCL in his right knee last night. Free, whose performance in place of Flozell Adams showed promise, will miss an extended period of time. A sprained MCL sidelined Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck for four games last season.

That stinks, but it's better than it could have been. Just a cost of doing business, I suppose.

It's only a big deal if one of our tackles goes down. McQ is 1st backup anyway.

I agree, it could have been much worse had he torn the MCL

MCLs can go 8-12 weeks at worst

I expect that if he's gone 8-12 weeks that he's going on IR. If it is only 4-6 weeks he'll stay on the roster so he can practice later in the year.

What this really screws is the interior line -- no way that McQ gets a snap at G now.

Glad its just a sprain.

We'll see how long it takes him to get back on the field. Sprain's and the recovery from said, are not all equal.

Sprained MCL for Free

Okay, so I see the title and immediately I'm thinking to myself, "who would order that even if it is free?"

Does anyone know what a player who is on IR can do - I assume he can work with trainers, no problem. But can he work with coaches? Can he engage in drills with other players? Can he get in some snaps during practice?

You can see where I'm going with this.

He can do anything rehab-wise except suit up.

A sprain is a tear.

I just blew your mind, huh?

Actually a sprain MAY BE A TEAR, it can also be just stretched it depends on the degree of the sprain.

Sprains involve the stretching and tearing of a ligament.

stretching doesn't always mean tearing.... I sprained mine and the doc said there were no visible signs of tears.... a few years later I tore the ACL and medial meniscus.......... OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Free needs to change his number...68 is a guard number, I want my new franchise LT to have a number in the 70s. ;)
