Anyone had an issue with this Virus?

My kid's laptop has it on there and nothing I have tried removes it.

Can you show me where it gets rid of this? I don't want to download anything at this point. I have Webroot Spy Sweeper on the laptop and that isn't even killing this thing.

I have used it many times. It's safe.

After reading the comments section on that site, it sounds like a real bear to get rid of. Here's the last comment that was successful:

Got this horrendous virus yesterday, but have just got rid of it.

Downloaded MalwareBytes on to another PC and put it on to a USB stick. My infected PC would only boot in safe mode - under which MalwareBytes wouldn’t run :-(.

I then restarted the XP machine using ‘Last known good settings’. The virus popped up right away and started to run, but at least now I could install MalwareBytes.

I ran it (quick scan first), and it did find ‘SpyGaurd’ - though SpyGuard itself kept coming on during the scan (I always quickly closed it).

MalwareBytes removed most of it on the first pass, but some elements had to be removed after a reboot - which it seemed to do.

Fingers crossed everything is now clear!

I am so hesitant to download anything else to try and kill this based on how it is acting.

If it's that messed up your best bet is to wipe it and reload. If you do manage to kill the virus there is no guarantee it won't come back.

Any luck?
It has been running for over 2 hours and it doesn't have a way to tell how much longer it is going to go.

Depending on how much it finds it can take a long time

I did a full scan. I didn't want it to miss a thing.

5+ hours and it says it found 109 threats. But I find no evidence they are quarantined, deleted, or that the laptop is safe. In fact the little spyware Guard 2008 notice is still popping up its little sales pitch.

Is there some kind of trick to this software? I'd hate to think I wasted 5 hours.

You have to tell it you want to remove the items it found. There should be a remove items button at the bottom right of the box.

Geek Squad recommended Malwarebytes, it worked for me, takes a while though.
