‘Depressing process’ sidelined Charles Tapper as rookie but he’s ready for debut

Charles Tapper spent his rookie season on the sidelines. He watched home games in shorts on the AT&T sidelines, out with a back injury.

Tapper could only describe his rookie year as a “depressing process.” He was diagnosed with a pars defect in the lower back that kept him out all season.

“You miss all this time with the team. You miss being out there at practice. You miss the first game coming out of the tunnel. You miss all those things that you see on TV,” Tapper said. “Seeing everyone suited and I’m just in shorts? Man, I just wish I could go out there and do what everybody else is doing but you couldn’t.”

Tapper will no longer be on the sidelines. He’s healthy and ready to make his NFL debut against the New York Giants on Sunday night.
Tapper, a fourth-round pick out of Oklahoma, is expected to become a rotational piece among the Cowboys’ defensive line. He’s hoping to showcase why the Cowboys used their first fourth-round pick in 2016 on him instead of Dak Prescott, their second choice in the fourth round.

He might not get the whole year if he doesn't show up soon in games. With the number of players returning from suspension or injury, he'll need to make his way up the depth chart quickly

Lol.

He's not going to get released.

This is essentially his rookie season, after playing out of position for 2 years in college.
He is getting a ton of credit mileage from how he was supposedly misused in college.

Funny the simple fact of how he has either been unavailable or ineffective when he has played is dismissed.

No offense, but you asked the forum about his college position just a week ago. That's something you should know. For the record, he played a "frog" position that was mainly a 2-gap scheme at OU his last two years.

He hasn't played a rush DE 4-3 type position full-time in 4 years, coming off a year of injury.

He's played a few preseason games. The fact some people think this is even close to some kind of summary judgment is laughable. I will put any amount of money on him not getting released. In fact, I bet it will never even be mentioned the entire year outside of a few guys on this forum who knee-jerk conclusions when they don't even know what position the player played in college at a major D1 program.

I am fully aware of the perception of how he was "misused". I have heard it since he was drafted. There is a reason he made it until the fourth round and it was not just because he played in a scheme that did not fit him.

He hasn't played a rush DE 4-3 type position full-time in 4 years, coming off a year of injury.

And the injury (back defect) is one thing, but then you see a concerning Chaz Green-type of just golly darn bad luck little nicks here and there that keep him from practicing.

I don't think he will be released.

Not a chance, so you can save that narrative for someone else.

He will linger on the roster no matter what, but mainly due to the fact he was a fourth round pick and the guy picked before Prescott.

This team will hang onto him until the bloody end.

I am more hopeful of Moore's prospects than I am Tapper's and that is saying a lot .

I just don't see this bright future. And that is okay, I have been wrong before.
