With Alex Smith's quick dink and dunk style, sacks may be hard to come by this weekend. He is another quarterback that takes what is given and doesn't take chances very often. I truly hope we play man coverage when possible. Zone might get us eaten alive.

Then again if we play 10 yards off it wont matter either way. Hoping we play aggressive this week.

He's been sacked 22 times, fifth-most in the league, and the Chiefs' adjusted sack rate allowed is 19th in the league.

Ouch. I stand corrected...... The games I have seen he is a low risk dink and dunk QB.... Very little pressure has gotten to him.... Guess I have seen some crappy defenses vs him.... Thanks for having me look at his stats...

Still mostly true though because I could see smith taking advantage of space underneath because that’s with Reid and smith do. Plus it’s already worked for the rams this season.

Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence is one sack on Sunday from tying an NFL record. Lawrence would join Robert Mathis (’05), Dwight Freeney (’09) and Everson Griffen (’17) as … Click to Continue »

At first I thought this was because it's a contract year, but the dude is on pace for like 23 sacks. Usually somebody who hasn't performed to expectations would put up 10-12 on a contract year, but I think it's finally clicked for this guy. He and Irving are definitely the future of our D line and both should be locked up for a long time in the off-season

The best part about Lawrence is much of his success is due to the trouble Maliek Collins is causing inside, and now David Irving, too.

Even Tyrone Crawford is now raising hell for offenses. It's a genuine pass rush unit, which is like finding a unicorn in a crowd of leprechauns for Cowboys fans.

I disagree, personally. I think Lawrence is making it easier for the rest of the unit, and not the other way around. He's winning in a variety of ways and is clearly the top priority of opposing lines.

It goes both ways certainly.

However, there is no more valuable player than a defensive tackle that can create pressure up the middle. That drives QBs nuts because they can't step up in the pocket to avoid edge rushers.

Heres my question...maybe its scheme too...

Is whats asked of Dlaw the same as Dware?

No..

DWare use to drop back in coverage with Wade and in the 3-4 and never exclusively rushed the passer..

I can’t remember if Parcells use to have him drop back in coverage, but those were horrible years anyways particularly because James and Ayodele were just awful in pass coverage.. couldn’t sniff out a screen play..

Not true at all. Alex Smith leads all QBs in yards per attempt. In 2nd place in yards, 360 yards behind Brady with 50 fewer pass attempts.

In the past, Smith and KC have been dink and dunk, but since they now have speed at WR and a stud TE that can stretch the field, they are not at all.

How weird is it that Lawrence is 7.5 sacks away from 10th all time on the Cowboys list?
i was just about to post this... i would think that number would be a lot higher for a team like the cowboys with their previous pash rushers.

Game plans change versus opponent so we will see. Reid knows this defense and what if’s designed to do.

The sack stat is quite young, I believe they only started tracking it in the early 80s. Not surprising that he's reaching the top 10 with a handful of sacks. Anthony Spencer, Jason Hatcher and Jay Ratliff make the top 15 with 33 and 27 sacks total. Demarcus Ware took 1 season to get basically there!
