Since joining the Cowboys, Brandon Carr has recorded four interceptions. Three have come in the fourth quarter or overtime. Two have resulted in touchdowns that helped wrap up a win. The other produced a field goal to win in overtime.
For Carr, who signed a $50.1 million five-year deal in 2012, they are big plays that are a result of him being able to face the passer.
“All those plays, I had vision on the ball, not turning and running and playing man to man,” he said. “It’s just having vision and breaking and trusting my instincts and going to get it. Those tips and overthrows, you’ve got to take advantage of it when it comes your way.”
The run of picks began for Carr at Philadelphia last year, when he returned an interception 47 yards for a touchdown to put the Cowboys ahead 31-17 in a 38-23 victory. It continued at Cincinnati four weeks later with an interception and 37-yard return in the second quarter of an eventual Cowboys win. The next week, his 36-yard interception return in overtime set up a field goal in a 27-24 victory against Pittsburgh.
Sunday night, his 49-yard fourth-quarter pick-six gave the Cowboys a 36-24 lead in a 36-31 victory against the Giants.
“Once you’ve got the ball in your hand, you’ve got to score,” Carr said. “That’s another thing we’ve been harping on. It’s one thing to get the turnover, but now you’ve got to take it to the next level and get in the end zone.”
In Kansas City, Carr also had interception returns of 32, 35 and 31 yards. He has a career average of 23.6 yards on 12 interceptions.
