Offensive guard Brian Waters felt a little strange wearing a Cowboys' uniform in Arrowhead Stadium. Waters spent 11 seasons in Kansas City, becoming a fan favorite in the process.
"It was definitely a good feeling," Waters said. "But we came here to win a football game. I didn’t really have time to have too much nostalgia. It was definitely something I miss as far as this is a special place in my heart and always will be."
Waters, who signed with the Cowboys on Sept. 3, had not played a down of football since the 2011 season with the Patriots. He was inactive last week. His first play was on a 51-yard field gaol by Dan Bailey.
Waters replaced Mackenzy Bernadeau at right guard on the Cowboys' second series. He played all six plays on the team's only touchdown drive. He played the next series, too, a three-and-out. He played two series and nine plays in the second half, giving him four series and 18 offensive plays for the game. He also played on all four Bailey kicks.
"I had a few series," Waters said. "I don’t know how many plays it ended up being because I wasn’t counting. But I got a few series in there just like everybody else. Some good. Some bad. Not enough to win. So don’t have a lot of things to work on next week."
Cowboys offensive coordinator Bill Callahan said the plan was to ease Waters back into action. As to how Waters played, Callahan said they would have to watch the film first.
"We have a good plan," Callahan said. "We had conversed with him and thought he could play a few series and get acclimated and get himself going again. We’ll see. We’ll take a look at the film. I know he was excited to play."
