Nickel cornerback Orlando Scandrick garnered the wrong kind of attention earlier this week when he was kicked out of practice for bumping an official.

But the Cowboys aren't letting the unfortunate incident overshadow what has been very strong training camp from the sixth-year cornerback _ so much so that any thoughts of rookie fourth-round pick B.W. Webb challenging Scandrick for his job as the nickel cornerback have been erased.

"Very good, very good, coming to work every day, competing hard, playing both inside and outside," coach Jason Garrett said when asked about Scandrick's play in camp. "The mind set is really good. He is one of the guys what won one of your off season awards. So his commitment in the off season has been outstanding. His mindset in camp has been really good."

Garrett said Scandrick won an award from the strength and conditioning coaches in the off season because of the gains he made in the weight room from last season and throughout the spring.

It's all a testament to Scandrick’s competitive nature and feisty personality that the Cowboys have liked since their drafted him in the fifth round out of Boise State in 2008.

"I love him," Garrett said. "He is a fighter. He is a competitor. He has been that way since minute one. That's one of the things that attracted him to us. That's what we loved about him right from the start. He has a little bit of a chip on his shoulder. That is a good thing. That is the way he plays. He has always played that way."
