Statistical notes from the Cowboys’ 36-31 victory against the Giants on Sunday night, as provided by the Cowboys’ PR staff:
* The win improved the Cowboys’ season opener record to 36-17-1 (16-7-1 at home).
* Dallas now has a 7-0 record (5-0 at home) when facing the Giants in the season opener.
* The win improved the Cowboys’ Sunday night record to 22-25 (9-11 at home). The Cowboys’ upped their record against the Giants on Sunday night to 4-5 (2-3 at home).
* The Cowboys forced three turnovers in the first quarter for the first time in team history. It was the ninth time the Cowboys had three takeaways in one quarter. The last time they had three in one quarter, it was in the fourth against Buffalo on Nov. 13, 2011.
* Will Allen’s interception was his fifth career and first since 2005 with Tampa Bay.
* With 10 catches, Miles Austin passed Frank Clarke for 11th on the Cowboys’ all time list. It was the fifth time Austin has caught 10 passes in a game.
* Travis Frederick became the first rookie to start a game at center for the Cowboys since Al Johnson in 2004. Frederick is the first rookie to start a season-opener at center since Andre Gurode in 2002.
* The win improved Tony Romo’s opening day record to 5-2.
* In completing 73.5 percent of his passes, Romo has 32 career games with a completion percentage of 70.0 or more. Troy Aikman has the club high with 39.
* Jason Witten caught eight passes for 70 yards and two touchdowns. His 70 yards upped his career yardage total to 9,018, making him just the second Cowboys player (Michael Irvin) and third league tight end (Tony Gonzalez and Shannon Sharpe) to reach 9,000 receiving yards. Witten reached 9,000 in 160 games. Gonzalez did it in 163, Sharpe in 183.
* Witten’s eight catches gave him 814 career to tie Keyshawn Johnson for 25th in league history.
* Witten’s 70 receiving yards moved him to 50th on the league’s all-time list.
