Brandon Carr said he spends “countless nights” trying to figure out a way to get himself and the defense playing better, and he has figured out one thing – he needs to get back to being his aggressive self.
“Just get back my mentality that got me into these doors,” he said Wednesday at Valley Ranch. “I feel like I kind of went away from that. Whatever, that’s my fault. You get an opportunity to go out there Sunday and to prove yourself once again. I’m encouraged about that. I’m happy about that.
“It’s a chance for me to go out there and get back to playing like Brandon Carr.”
Carr, who is fourth on the team in tackles, first in passes defensed and second in interceptions, agreed he is getting targeted more recently. He said he has to make that an advantage for him.
“My philosophy is, if you keep trying me long enough, I'm gonna burn you one time,” he said. “It’s fine. I figure it will come at some point. Some teams are going to start working me and getting me action. Now I have to find a way to win and get some turnovers for our offense.”
Carr said as a veteran leader, he puts it on himself to improve a defense that allowed 82 points in the last two games.
“Oh man, that’s never ending,” he said. “Why do you think I look the way I look now? Tired. There are countless nights I stay up and try to figure out ways to get myself going, get my unit going and get the team going. I think guys, some of the veteran guys around here, have done a good job of just keeping guys motivated, pulling young guys aside and getting in their ear, keeping them going and just giving them words of encouragement. Right now that’s all you can do, and then Sundays, you just got to get it done. No talk, no nothing. Just go out there and get the job done, not make any excuses.”
