The Cowboys have to hope they don’t see Drew Brees for a long, long time. They have played Brees and the Saints twice since Dec. 23. In the two games against the Saints, the Cowboys allowed 1,187 total yards with Brees getting 838 passing yards.
The Saints had 562 yards in an overtime victory over the Cowboys in December. They had a team-record 625 on Sunday, which also was the most ever allowed by the Cowboys.

The Cowboys’ record had stood for only two weeks. Detroit had 623 yards against Dallas on Oct. 27.

The Saints' 625 yards was the most in a regular-season, non-overtime game since San Diego gained 661 yards against Cincinnati on Dec. 20, 1982.

The Saints set an NFL record for first downs in a game with 40.

"I’ve never felt like this before," Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick said. "I can’t remember when I’ve been a part of a game like this before."

The Saints scored on seven of 10 possessions, and Drew Brees came only 8 yards short of becoming the fifth 400-yard passer the Cowboys have allowed this season. Dallas already holds the NFL record in having allowed Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Philip Rivers and Matthew Stafford to throw for over 400 yards against them.

"There were just very few plays that we stopped," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. "They were able to do a lot of different things. They ran the ball when they wanted to run it. I thought Drew Brees did a fantastic job reading coverages and finding the right guy. They made a lot of little plays in the game. They made big plays in the game. They were very good on third downs to sustain drives. They were able to do what they wanted to do in the passing game and the running game, too, consistently throughout the game."

Of course, it isn't just the Saints who are making the Cowboys look bad this season.

The Cowboys have allowed 4,398 yards this season, putting them on pace to allow 7,037 for the season. The NFL record is the 7,042 the Saints allowed last season.
