Wide receiver Miles Austin and defensive end DeMarcus Ware are listed as doubtful to play against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, but running back DeMarco Murray is expected to return.
Austin (hamstring) and Ware (thigh) did not participate in practice this week, as they went through rehab exercises on a side field. Murray, who has missed most of the last three games, has gone through full practices every day and is expected to start at running back.
Austin was essentially shut down this week in the hopes that it would help his recovery process.
"We're really wanting to make sure we get him 100 percent back and he's not out there playing at 85-90 percent," Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said. "Give him the chance to get all the way back rather than push him out."
Ware is getting closer, but Sunday doesn't seem realistic. Asked if Ware could go this week, Jones said: "Doubtful, but we'll see. He's really had a great couple of days."
Safety J.J. Wilcox (knee), right guard Brian Waters (elbow), linebacker DeVonte Holloman (neck) and cornerback Morris Claiborne (hamstring) have been ruled out for Sunday's game.
Safety Danny McCray (hip/toe) is listed as questionable, but he expects to play after being limited Friday. He said the toe was bothering him worse than the hip but not bad enough to keep him out.
"It felt good [to return to practice]," McCray said Friday. "Anytime, especially during the season, watching practice, and then I know we only have three [healthy] safeties now. So to just leave my people out there with three safeties, I just felt like I was letting them down a little bit. Britt [Brown] and the training staff got me back in, and I feel good."
