The Cowboys put Anthony Spencer on injured reserve and used his roster spot to sign cornerback Chris Greenwood off the Detroit Lions' practice squad.
Greenwood was a fifth-round pick of the Lions in 2012 out of Albion College who the Cowboys also had an eye on in that draft. He sat out his rookie season on the PUP list with a torn abdominal muscle.
“He’s a guy that we spent a lot of time with prior to the draft,” coach Jason Garrett said Wednesday. “Had a workout with him at Albion. Brought him in for the ‘30’ visit. Big, long, tall corner.”
Greenwood, 6-1, 193, had two tackles in preseason for the Lions and was signed to their practice squad.
“We were looking for an opportunity to sign a big, young corner who we could develop and maybe have a role on our football team, and he fit the bill, so we went ahead and made that decision,” Garrett said.
