The Cowboys didn’t have to be told they produced zero takeaways against the Chiefs.
It was one of their main disappointments from Sunday.
“Just got to rip that ball out, get turnovers,” safety Barry Church said. “We weren’t able to get that today. It proved to be the difference.”
Defensive tackle Jason Hatcher said it’s about one-upping the other defense.
“We’ve got to outplay their defense,” he said. “They got two turnovers, we’ve got to get four. So we couldn’t get the ball out. We played great upfront and made some plays, made some clutch plays, got the ball back to the offense. But when it counted, we didn’t show up.”
Not that there weren’t chances.
Linebacker Bruce Carter got his hands on a pass in the third quarter that could have been a pick-six with the Cowboys leading 10-7.
“We have to me more aggressive on knocking the ball out and getting interceptions and capitalizing on our opportunities,” defensive end DeMarcus Ware said. “There was one opportunity we didn't capitalize. We dropped it. We’ve got to figure out how not to miss the missed opportunities.”
Cornerback Brandon Carr said the six takeaways against the Giants was a good start, but that’s all it was.
“We have to just keep fighting each week to stay consistent out there and with our effort in getting to the ball and everybody trying to get the ball out,” he said. “Unfortunately we didn’t get the ball out today, and the scoreboard kind of reflected that.”
