The Cowboys are eager to get their first look at third-round pick Terrance Williams in game action.

Coach Jason Garrett said the former Baylor receiver will play early in the preseason game against Arizona on Saturday.

“He’ll certainly play early in this ball game, and he might get a little extended action,” Garrett said.

Williams missed the first two games because of a concussion. He sat out a week of practice and games against the Dolphins and Raiders.

"Finally, I get to go out there and play against a different color," Williams said. "It’s just a matter of being comfortable and just going out there and showing my capabilities."
Receivers coach Derek Dooley said Williams is practicing with a mind to contribute, but the coaches remain aware he is a rookie.

“There’s some development that has to be done,” Dooley said. “Our expectations don’t change. We expect the same from him as we do from all the veterans, but we also recognize that he is a rookie so you have to have a little bit of patience at times.”

What Williams does in the game depends on what he does in practice, Dooley said.

“The starting point is, are they doing it consistently well in practice?” Dooley said. “Then, when they’re doing it consistently well in practice, certainly they’re going to have opportunities in the game, and the more opportunities you take advantage of in a game, the more balls come your way. He’s got to do Step 1, which is get in a game and see what he can do.”
