The Cowboys tried a new offensive line formation in practice Wednesday morning.

They had Doug Free at right guard, Mackenzy Bernadeau at left guard and Jermey Parnell at right tackle during the part of practice open to reporters.

It could mean the team is serious about questioning whether David Arkin can hold up at left guard. Arkin has been playing in place of Ronald Leary and Nate Livings, who are both recovering from knee surgery.

The Cowboys considered a move to guard for Free in the spring but rejected it. They might have tried it in camp, but Parnell was injured most of that time. Parnell encouraged the Cowboys late last season by playing well in a platoon with Free at right tackle.
