The NFL trade deadline is at 3 p.m. Tuesday, and the Cowboys seem unlikely to make a trade. The defense could use a boost, but there are hurdles to making a trade work with their salary-cap situation. They are only some $2 million under the $123 million salary cap, and are projected to be $31 million over next year’s cap.

“It takes quite a bit to get something to happen, but we certainly would look at something if it would help us, especially on the defensive side of the ball,” executive vice president Stephen Jones said on KRLD-FM 105.3.

The last in-season trade made by the Cowboys came in 2008 when they acquired wide receiver Roy Williams from the Lions.
