Cowboys vice-president has no interest in lamenting not signing veteran guard Brian Waters earlier, rather than six days before the start of the season opener.
The Cowboys have been trying to sign Waters since the start of training camp but couldn't come to contract terms. Jones is just happy Waters is here now.
"Obviously we have been very consistent saying we need help on our offensive line," Jones said. "We think this will give it to us. I don't have much to say about why it didn't happen (earlier). The good news is it happened and he is going to help us."
Jones said the addition of the six-time Pro Bowler has turned the Cowboys offensive line from being a question mark to being a strength in terms of starters and depth.
The Cowboys envision Waters starting opposite Ron Leary at guard with Doug Free back at right tackle competing with Jermey Parnell, allowing former starters in Mackenzy Bernadeau and Phil Costa to be the primary backup at guard and center, respectively.
"Getting Waters takes us from being a big big question mark on the front end to having good depth," Jones said. "You take a starter last year in Bernadeau and he may ultimately be a backup. You know what we think of Costa and Parnell is gives you a solid eight there. We are pleased."
