The Cowboys have been impressed by the way rookie center Travis Frederick dived into his job. He is just about set as the starting center.

But they still want to get a look at him at guard, coach Jason Garrett said.

“We anticipate him spending most of his time at center, which is what he did all throughout the OTAs and mini-camp practices, but we do think there are some opportunities to see him a little bit at guard,” Garrett said. “He has a comfort level with that, so we’re going to look for opportunities starting here in training camp to be able to do some of that.”

The Cowboys likely were planning all along to get a look at Frederick at guard, but they may get more chances than they thought. Starting left guard Nate Livings and backup Ron Leary will both be limited as camp begins because of injuries. Livings has a foot problem, and Leary developed a calf problem in the week before camp.
