There is no question the putrid defense gave the Cowboys no chance to win on Monday but the offense is not without blame in the 45-28 loss.
To a man, the Cowboys say they understand they needed to keep up with the Bears and match them score for score. In the end they couldn't keep up.
The Bears turned a 14-14 game to 42-14 before the Cowboys scored again.
"It's a team game," receiver Dez Bryant said. "We have to score points to help out our D. It's just th way it goes."
Certainly the Bears controlled the game and controlled the clock, which limited the opportunities the Cowboys had on offense.
A turning point in the game can be traced to three straight incompletions on offense late in the second quarter, giving the ball back to the Bears with :47 left in the half. They turned a 17-14 score to 24-14 with a late touchdown pass.'
The Cowboys could have played conservative to run out the clock but tried to put up points because they knew they needed to score to win the game and match the Bears.
"We didn't do enough offensively to win the game," coach Jason Garrett said. "We understand that. When you play a game like this when you have to match them you have to match em. You have to convert third downs and keep drives alive. It became one of those games we had to match serve every time. We werent able to do that and the game got out of hand. We didn't play well enough tonight."
