DeMarco Murray became the Cowboys' first 1,000=yard rusher since Julius Jones in 2007. But his first touchdown reception proved bigger than any of his runs.

On fourth-and-goal from the 10, with the Cowboys trailing by six points with 1:16 left, Tony Romo bought time, giving Murray, who had initially stayed in to help right tackle Doug Free, a chance to leak into the right flat. Murray caught the pass and dove into the end zone for the game-winner with 1:08 left.

“I knew where I was on the field. I just knew I had to get another yard or so and try to get the ball in there,” Murray said. “It was a great decision by Romo and a great job by the offensive line giving him time to throw and make a good decision.”

It followed three running plays in which Murray failed to get into the end zone. The third-down play from the 1 resulted in a 9-yard loss as Murray started left only to see Commanders everywhere, including cornerback DeAngelo Hall. Murray reversed course and was tackled by linebacker Perry Riley Jr.

“I felt like there were three guys out there,” Murray said. “There wasn’t enough room. I should have just ate it there, and I tried to make something happen, and it didn’t go my way.”

Murray was over 100 yards for the third consecutive game until the 9-yard loss. He finished with 96 yards on 22 carries.

In the last six games, Murray has 105 carries for 614 yards, a 5.8 yard average, and six touchdowns.
