Yes, DeMarco Murray was mad after the loss to Green Bay on Sunday, but he wasn’t mad at anyone.
He was mad at the situation: not getting the chance to close the game out.
“You know, I mean, I think in that situation, the offensive line and myself would definitely have liked the opportunity to close the game out for us and give us that opportunity,” he said. “I wasn’t mad at anybody. I was just mad at the situation. We let them come back and gave them an opportunity to win the game, and they took advantage of that. But I wasn’t mad at anyone or anything like that.”
Murray carried only seven times in the second half, which the Cowboys opened with a 26-3 lead. He finished with 134 yards on 18 carries, averaging 7.4 yards.
After an interception cost the Cowboys their last possession, Murray took off his helmet in anger.
But he said he didn’t go to the coaches to talk about the lack of chances in the second half, and the coaches didn’t come to him and explain.
“They don’t need to come to me,” Murray said. “I think there are some things we wish we could have done differently. We watched the film. There are some great things we did and some things we need to build on. There are some bad things that we didn’t do so well that we’ve got to get corrected. At the end of the day, these last two weeks, we’ve got to get better and continue to execute ball plays offensively.
“Like I said before, I just worry about what I can control and the opportunities I get. Those are the leaders. They know what’s best for our team. Whatever I can do to do my job, I’m going to continue to do that.”
Murray agreed that the running game, which has averaged 145.8 yards over the last four weeks, has earned the right to close out games.
“Yeah. I think that’s kind of what you want to do,” he said. “As an offensive line and the way we’ve been running, we feel like we can close the game out. But, once again, that’s up to Callahan, who calls the plays. He gives us great opportunities. We’ve just got to continue to get those opportunities and help this team out as much as we can.”
