Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware isn't where he wants to be or where he usually is in the NFL sack totals. He is tied for 37th with only four. lassoing
Twice he led the league in sacks, and he has finished in the top 10 every year except his rookie season of 2005. Ware is only three sacks out of the top 10, though he trails NFL-leader Robert Mathis by 7.5.
"I’m behind, so I guess I’ve got to hop on the saddle and start riding a little bit," Ware said Thursday.
Ware has missed the past three games with an injured quadriceps. He returned to practice Wednesday, and though he was limited in both practices this week, he expects to play Sunday.
"I’m ready to play, get out there and see what I can do this week," Ware said.
Ware produced one of the most memorable games of his career the last time the Cowboys were in New Orleans. He sacked Drew Brees two times and forced two fumbles, including the game-clinching one, in 2009 as the Cowboys upset the previously undefeated Saints. It came only a week after Ware left in an ambulance with a neck injury.
"I didn’t think I was going to play for a long time," Ware said of his thoughts as he was taken off on a stretcher in the game against the Chargers. "Sometimes when you go in certain places you get certain vibes or you feel a certain way that you can do it, getting the confidence from your teammates to get out there and play. That’s the way I felt, not letting them down."
Ware, the team's all-time sacks leader, has only 6.5 sacks in his past 14 games. He went sackless in eight of those 14 games.
