Emmitt Smith played for another team at the end of his career. So, too, did Tony Dorsett.
DeMarcus Ware likely will finish his career elsewhere after the Cowboys released him Tuesday. While Cowboys owner Jerry Jones left open the possibility of Ware's return, it is more likely Ware will find a bigger deal with one of the other 31 teams.
But he'll always be remembered for what he did with the Cowboys.
Ware arguably is the best pass rusher in team history, having set the team record with 117 sacks. He has earned a place in the team's Ring of Honor when Jones decides it's time, alongside Bob Lilly, Randy White and Charles Haley.
And Ware surely will receive strong consideration as a first-ballot Hall of Fame candidate no matter how his career finishes.

His 117 sacks ranks fourth among active players and 18th in history. Ware, who turns 32 this summer, should reach the top 10 if his health holds.
For whatever else he does, wherever he is, Ware is, was and always be remembered for what he did in Dallas.
