Dez Bryant was seemingly on his way to one of the legacy-making games against the Chiefs Sunday.
He had five catches for 100 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter while abusing Kansas City cornerback Brandon Flowers.
Bryant ended up nine catches for 141 yards, giving him a nice stat line. But nothing that the first quarter foreshadowed.
In the end, he likely will be remembered most for a critical drop in the third quarter. With the Cowboys 14-13 after two fumbles by the offense Bryant had a chance to put his signature on the game as he found himself running open again behind Flowers.
But the pass bounced off his hands and to the ground. The Cowboys offense never got back in sync.
"I knew I had it and I took my eyes off of it," a frustrated Bryant said. "I did something I shouldn't have done. I know what I can do. Everybody else know what I can do. I won't ever make a mistake like that again."
Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Bryant had a heck of a game but has to learn to finish it.
"He has to finish the play," Garrett said. "He is capable of doing that "He had a heck of a game and got free one more time. We felt like the throw was there and he had the opportunity to make that play. But we didn't finish it."
