The best thing about this season for Doug Free is it isn't last season.

Free has returned to his 2010 form, back to when the Cowboys commited $17 million in guaranteed money to him before the start of the 2011 season.

In his second season back at right tackle, Free has allowed 6.5 sacks, according to STATS, but he has only one holding penalty.

Free agrees he's played better this season.

"Maybe its just another year getting used to the system, used to the side," Free said. "I don’t have any one particular thing, 'Hey, this is the jackpot or anything like that.’ I've just been working hard this year on trying to stay focused on the task at hand and just roll with it."

In 2012, Free had 13 penalties, including five holds, and allowed seven sacks. He alternated snaps with Jermey Parnell late in the season. He took a pay cut to return.

The Cowboys have played the past five games without right guard Brian Waters, with Mackenzy Bernadeu returning to the starting spot.

"It's gone good," Free said. "Having an injury with Waters, it's been a while getting Mac back in there, getting Mac situated, but I think we’ve been playing real good over there, and it's been good to have him out there."
