Gavin Escobar caught his first touchdown pass, a 24-yarder down the seam into the end zone, in Sunday’s game against the Rams.
He thinks it was a coverage bust.
“Yeah, they kind of screwed up with the formation or something,” the rookie tight end said. “But the linebacker came over there late and just had me open. I was very excited. That’s usually not a play where I’m the go-to guy. But you never know, and you have to be ready to catch the ball.”
Escobar caught a touchdown pass in preseason, but he had not been a scoring target in the first two games of the regular season. He had two catches for 16 yards coming in.
“Yeah, they had me going downfield to open things up for Witten on some option routes,” Escobar said. “But you know, it’s just part of our game plan and what we have been working on.”
