Travis Frederick said he knew what was coming from Dontari Poe of the Chiefs last week. It just came at him better than he thought.
“I saw the thing in film that he did, and he did it better than he normally does,” he said.
The Cowboys rookie center said he was over-aggressive on the play where Poe slipped past him for a sack of Tony Romo.
“I saw an opportunity I wanted to take advantage of,” Frederick said. “I was a little more aggressive than I should have been and went for it. I learned from it. Faced the same move several times during the game later on. I just needed to try to trust myself a little bit more.”
Frederick said he didn’t let his confidence sink after the sack. But he was kicking himself after the game and Monday in film.
“Things like that happen,” Frederick said. “And obviously, you don’t want it to happen, but if it does happen, you have to be able to play the rest of the game. If you mess up early on in the game and then don’t play the rest of the game, that’s going to hurt everybody even worse. So you put it behind you during the game, you go back to it after the game and obviously the next day when you’re watching the film, figure out what it is that happened, fix it, and then don’t let it happen again.”
Frederick allowed two sacks by Poe, a first-round pick last year. Coach Jason Garrett said one sack was because Frederick was physically beaten, and the other was because of miscommunication.
