The Saints did a good job of taking away Dez Bryant, and the Cowboys did not do a good job of going to the player who was open because of it, coach Jason Garrett said after Sunday’s game.
“Dez gets a lot of attention every week, as you guys know,” Garrett said after the 49-17 loss at New Orleans, in which Bryant had one catch for 44 yards on two targets, his fewest targets this year. “Teams will come out and double him in a lot of different ways, and they did that. They did that in all our different formations and personal groups. They did the same with Witten. We didn’t do a good enough job finding the other guys who were getting isolated.”
The Cowboys managed less than 200 yards in the loss and did not convert a third down, going 0-for-9.
“We didn’t drive the ball the way we wanted to,” Garrett said. “We didn’t do a good job on third down to sustain drives. That was a big part of this game.”
