What can the Cowboys do to get better during the bye week? Aside from getting healthy, that is.

“That analysis,” coach Jason Garrett said Tuesday at Valley Ranch. “You analyze your whole football team each and every week but the best chance to do that during the season is at the bye. We’ve already started that process as a coaching staff to really look at what we do well and what we don’t do well and try to build on the good things and maybe correct or get rid of some of the bad things.”

Garrett emphasized that the Cowboys are doing good things, specifically the takeaways on defense and the red-zone performance from the offense. But outside of those areas, he didn’t want to get into details.

“I don’t want to get into too many specifics of that from a scheme standpoint, but we have done some good things,” he said. “I think the numbers are pretty revealing in that regard when you look at the first 10 weeks of the season. Again, you try to play to the strengths of your players and make sure you give them a chance to be successful.”

Garrett said the Cowboys shouldn’t overreact.

“I think the thing we have to guard against is allowing this game to reflect what has happened up to this point in our entire season,” he said. “We have to address what happened in this ballgame. But we also have to step back and look at the first 10 weeks and again build on the positives and correct the negatives and make sure we’re doing the right things with our players and the right things with our schemes.

“In some ways, we have to really look at this game and analyze it. But we have got to be careful of over-analyzing this particular game and not looking at the rest of the body of work as we go forward. We do have to factor in who has been playing for us, and we have to make sure we understand that, and we have to make sure if they are playing or someone else is playing and make the necessary adjustments based on what our personnel is for the final six weeks of this season.”
