The Cowboys have had another player sidelined by a hamstring injury. Tight end James Hanna has a slight hamstring strain that will keep him out of Monday's practice. He sat out the morning walk-through, too.
“We don’t think his injury is really, really significant, and he’ll be back soon enough," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Monday.
Defensive tackle Jay Ratliff and offensive guard Mackenzy Bernadeau strained their hamstrings during Saturday's conditioning test and remain sidelined. Last year, safety Matt Johnson missed his rookie season with hamstring injuries, and receiver Miles Austin, too, was slowed by the same issue.
Garrett, though, isn't troubled by the number of players the Cowboys have had with hamstring injuries, pointing out that it is the most common injury in football.
"There's a lot of running that goes on in football, and sometimes guys get jerked away a certain way and they pull their hamstring," Garrett said. "...[But] you’re always evaluating that. You're always evaluating all parts of your strength and conditioning program, and we’ve looked at injury reports and, ‘Could we have prevented this one? Could we have prevented that one? What can we do better?' So that’s something [strength] coach [Mike] Woicik and his crew are always talking about and thinking about better ways to do it, and hopefully those numbers will be minimized the best we can.”
