The Cowboys “blew off” the blowout loss to the Saints, and that helped them win the next two games, defensive tackle Jason Hatcher said.
“We could have easily packed it in after getting embarrassed the way we did,” Hatcher said. “But guys just kind of blew it off. It kind of embarrassed us, but guys kind of blew it off, you know? And we were able to reel off two crucial wins there in less than four days. That just shows you what kind of guys we have on this team.”
Hatcher said the Cowboys have put the December failings of the past two years behind them.
“This is a new team, so we’re just focusing on doing what we’re doing,” he said. “That’s a new team that we are.”
The mindset of this team?
“Every game is like a playoff game, man,” Hatcher said. “We control our own destiny. We can’t get into one of those situations that we’re looking for somebody to lose or win or something like that. So we’ve just got to go out and take care of these next four games and go out there and win like we’re supposed to.”
Hatcher, who said after the Oakland game that he felt like he was playing on one arm, said he is feeling much stronger after the four-day break.
“I’ll tell you what: it’s getting better each game I play,” he said. “I just got to continue to rest it and not do nothing crazy in practice to damage the nerve again and have a setback. The trainers and the coaching staff are doing a great job of letting me go through practice not too physical and just having me ready for the game. I’m just going to continue with the gameplan they have for me, and it’s working, so I’m going to continue to do that.”
Hatcher said it’s a lift to see players like Sean Lee returning to the lineup.
“We put some good stuff out there on film, but we can also get better,” he said. “We’re just looking forward to getting everybody back on track, D-Ware playing the way he was. He’s coming along, so everybody is just happy to be back. Hopefully these injuries are over.”
